In November 2014, it was rumored that Mercedes-Benz had plans to cut ties with New York Fashion Week. Now, with a little more than one month until the spring/summer 2016 shows kick off in September, it's been reported by Fashionista that Lexus has replaced Mercedes-Benz as New York Fashion Week's automobile sponsor.
Additionally, in July, the Council of Fashion Designers of America debuted a new logo and brand campaign for New York Fashion Week.
"The campaign unifies New York Fashion Week as a whole, including runway venues and independent shows that are not part of a major venue, which account for almost two-thirds of the two main women's seasons," Steven Kolb, CEO and president of the CFDA, said, according to the organization's website.
"We want to bring across the message that New York Fashion Week is connected to the entire fashion community and industry," he added.
In addition to a new logo, New York Fashion Week will also have a new home next month.
For the past five years, the week-long event was hosted by Lincoln Center, but come September, it will be held at Skylight at Moynihan Station at 360 West 33rd Street and Skylight Clarkson Sq. at 550 Washington Street. Prior to moving to Lincoln Center, New York Fashion Week took place in Bryant Park.
"As IMG prepares to evolve New York Fashion Week, we are focused on creating the best possible experiences that extend beyond a physical location and moment in time," Mark Shapiro, chief content officer at IMG, told WWD in April when the new locations were announced.
"We're looking forward to reintroducing the industry to a showcase of creative talent, style and innovation that made the New York runways famous. Part of this showcase involves staying close to inspirational hubs for fashion, art and music, and we've found a great new home for that in Skylight at Moynihan Station and Skylight Clarkson Sq."
