What about hair loss from using gels, wearing extensions or constant tension? What styles work to help hair recover from all of these?

I wouldn't say that gels cause hair loss, but certain extensions that are sewn into the scalp can sometimes tug at your roots. These extensions aren't great for weak hair. I also wouldn't recommend really tight, pulled back styles, which also put a lot of pressure on the hair follicle. To help hair recover from harsh styles, it is best to go with a shorter cut that has a lot of layers to conceal any patchy spots. With this option, new growth will not be a drastically different length than the rest of your hair.
Should we rely on our stylist to address our thinning hair loss or no?

Your stylist is one of the best resources for identifying thinning hair or hair loss, especially if you see him or her regularly for appointments. They are usually one of the first people to notice changes to your scalp and hair density, so don't be afraid to ask them for tips! Should your problems persist and you feel like you want to seek medical advice and learn about treatment options, your stylist can refer you to a hair loss specialist to help determine the potential cause and can advise you on medical options.

What types of products help with thinning hair?
Certain brands have introduced products meant to address hair thinning. One of my favorite product lines is Kérastase and they recently launched the Densifique Collection. The line targets hair follicles for thicker and fuller hair and promises to deliver 1700 new hairs in three months, which is a significant improvement for those with hair loss.
